Save the date for Bay of Islands Sailing Week 2025!

Mark your diaries! New Zealands’ biggest multi-day sailing regatta is set to unfold from 21st-24th January 2025 in the Bay of Islands and organisers are excited about kicking it off.

The Bay of Islands Sailing Week AGM was held this month, with well-known New Zealand race officer Ian Clouston once again taking up the mantle of Regatta Chairman for the 2025 edition.

“We’re thrilled to have North Sails and Explore NZ back on board as sponsors of this iconic event, and encourage any businesses or individuals interested in supporting the event to get in touch,” says Clouston.

He says there’s a positive atmosphere amongst organisers who are eager to have the event return to last years’ location in front of the Bay of Islands Marina Office.

We were hugely encouraged by last year’s participants who loved the new venue area, which meant the event hub could be in a more centralised location, showcasing the Bay of Islands Marina waterfront with grassy area, playground, and room for the marquee, bar, and stage.

Last years’ entry list hit a milestone 100 boats, and it’s hoped with the building atmosphere of the new location that the 2025 edition will be even bigger.

Organisers are also encouraging females to get behind the helm, with the SheSails NZ Top Female Helm trophies up for grabs for the second year running.

“We were thrilled at the positivity around incorporating these trophies to the regatta, and hope it continues to incentivise more female sailors to get behind the wheel or tiller,” Clouston says.

As a community volunteer run event, Bay of Islands Sailing Week has always been proud to call itself a regatta by sailors, for sailors. The event relies on corporate sponsorship, together with community grant and trust funding, as well as participant entry fees and food & beverage sales to operate successfully each year.
