Bay Week is Just Two Weeks Away!

Happy New Year! We’re now just two weeks away from NZ’s biggest and best multi-day regatta.

We’re already seeing lots of boats from our growing entry list out there enjoying the fine weather and spectacular cruising that the Bay of Islands has to offer.

Our entry list now totals 87 boats, with still more expected over the next couple of weeks. The entries we’ve received so far just go to show that BOISW truly is a regatta for everyone. From 10-year old youth sailors to Team New Zealand and Volvo Ocean Race champions, from tiny Wetas to massive multihulls, from local boats to those flying foreign flags, and from first timers to old timers (some who have never missed a regatta in its entire 16 year history!) Bay of Islands Sailing Week 2018 really does have it all.

Will you be joining them? Entries will be accepted right up until registration on Tuesday 23rd, so there’s still time if you haven’t entered already. But the sooner you enter the easier it is for our team of volunteers to plan a fun and successful regatta for everyone, so please enter online now.

Celebrate our Sweet 16 with us – Swinging 60s Style!

The evening of Thursday 25th will be one to remember, as Bay of Islands Sailing Week celebrates our ‘Sweet 16th Birthday’. Join us in the North Sails & Hall Spars Marquee for a Swinging 60s Theme Party with live music from JPG, cake and birthday presents, and free nibbles kindly provided by our sponsor NZL Sailing Foundation. Dig out those tie-dyes and flares and come join in the birthday fun!

On-water umpiring is back

This year we’ll have on-water umpires again on some courses. On these courses, if you are protested for an alleged breach of Part 2 or Rule 31 of the Racing Rules, you have the option of taking a ‘one turn penalty’ voluntarily, or leaving it for the umpires to decide, in which case you risk a ‘two turn penalty’, or a Protest Hearing ashore. The choice is yours – happy sailing!

Room for one more?

Our Crew Available list is growing, and it would be great to get everyone out on the water if we can, so take a look at the list and see if you have room for another hard-working crew on your boat.
